Sana and Chanda gave some great insights regarding how to conduct a positive and productive interview. One of the most important pieces of information I took away from our talk is to not portray them as weak, powerless victims. They are more than refugees, and although that is what our interview will be about, we cannot forget that there is more to it than that label so we must portray them in a broader light. Another important thing I took from the session was to remember their names. You might think "well duh of course I will" but to many people it's important so they feel like a human and not just a number. This was evident in the video we were shown where the children were given numbers, and we knew none of their names. The last thing I want to remember is to research. Learn about the individuals background. Do not go in to the interview blind, it's disrespectful and rude. Also, with proper knowledge of their background, you are able to ask more educated questions and create a more engaging conversation.
